Ants
Descriptions
The most common type of ant found in the UK is the black garden ant. Some ants, like the pharaoh ant, can only survive in the warmth of heated buildings.
Ants are most active during the warmer months of the year, usually between April and September. During this time, they are more likely to enter buildings in search of food and nesting sites. Signs of ant infestation in a premise include the presence of ant trails, small piles of soil or debris near cracks or crevices, and the appearance of ant nests in walls or on floors.
Once an ant finds food (especially something sweet) or water, it will take it back to its nest. It also leaves behind a scent trail to mark the way to the food or water source, which can be followed by other ants from its colony. This can quickly lead to an infestation. While not a threat to human health, sufficiently large numbers of ants can be a nuisance.
Successful treatment of an ant infestation tends to require eliminating the entire colony. Our technicians will first conduct a thorough inspection of your premises to determine the extent of the infestation, identify the type of ant species present, and locate the nest. We then use targeted treatments and baits to kill the queen ant and stop the colony from becoming larger.
The ants carry the bait back to the nest and share it with other ants, or feed it to the larvae and queen ant. Once enough ants have eaten the bait, the entire colony will eventually die out. While this may take some time, this ensures the colony is permanently eliminated.
