Bed Bugs
Descriptions
Bed bugs are tiny insects about 5mm in length. They feed on human and animal blood and are most commonly active at night. Bed bugs breed rapidly, and can hide in tiny cracks and crevices. As such, a room/house/hotel room can quickly become infested once a bed bug has attached itself to an item of clothing or luggage. Bed bugs pose a serious risk to businesses in the hospitality and transportation industry, where an infestation could harm a business’s reputation and lead to a loss of income.
Bed bug infestations are notoriously difficult to remove, as they can survive for months without feeding. Treatment involves a combination of insecticide sprays, steam treatment and full heat treatment. Extreme heat kills bed bugs instantly, so a steam treatment is the quickest solution. High-pressure steam is applied to areas where bed bugs are likely to be. Separately, a full heat treatment requires sealing off the room to be treated, raising the temperature and maintaining it for several hours to kill all the bed bugs. Our BPCA-certified technicians will combine both treatments with an insecticide spray to kill any bed bugs that were missed or hatched after the treatment.

Bed bugs can be hard to detect as they leave little to no trace other than their bites. Some signs to look out for are:
- Tiny, dried blood stains on bedding: caused by their faecal pellets
- Dark/black stains on mattresses and upholstery: caused by their excrement and usually found near their hiding spots
- Bites: usually in a cluster of 3 or 4 bites. Typically found on the neck, face, arms, legs and torso
